The 2018 Classic Bass Champions Tour Championship

Alexandria, MN and the Le Homme Dieu Chain Set to Host Championship

With five Champions Tour events in the books this season, the field has been narrowed to thirty anglers who have qualified to fish the 2018 Classic Bass Champions Tour Championship and a shot at winning a Skeeter Bass Boat powered by a Yamaha Outboard.

Our Championship anglers have been tasked with figuring out the Le Homme Dieu Chain, a very healthy body of water which surrounds Alexandria, MN. Le Homme Dieu, also known as the Alexandria Chain of Lakes is made up of 11 lakes, only six of which are navigable via channels. Lake Le Homme Dieu, Lake Carlos, Lake Geneva, Lake Victoria, Lake Darling, and Lake Jessie, although Lake Jessie may be accessible only by smaller fishing boats.

The Alexandria Chain is well known for being chalked full of bass. Both largemouth and smallmouth swim in these waters with green bass making up the majority of the population. Many, many tournaments have occurred here, most of which are hosted out of beautiful Arrowwood Resort. The Classic Bass Champions Tour has partnered with Arrowwood to put on an action packed, entertaining event that viewers have come to expect from Classic Bass.

As for the fishing, high numbers of bass are expected to be caught. The one variable that anglers have their eye on is weather. Late August and early September can always bring change to a classic summer bite when and if temperatures begin to drop. This week’s forecast does show a significant front moving through on Tuesday with highs only reaching the low 60’s, but temperatures rebound back into the high 70’s by tournament day.

There should be good numbers of fish up shallow around and under docks and other shoreline structure. There are tons of docks present on The Chain and we will surely see several anglers running that pattern. There are seemingly endless offshore options available as well. Points, bars, humps and break line’s offer lush vegetation in most areas. It’s certainly not as easy as fishing shallow but the angler that can locate large schools of deeper bass, may have the advantage.

When thirty of the best bass anglers in the Midwest square off, it’s certain to be an excellent tournament. Last year we watched eventual Champion Andy Walls and FLW Pro Austin Felix battle it out on Lake Pokegama until the final minutes of the day. A few crucial last-minute fish from Walls allowed him to drive home with a brand-new Skeeter Bass Boat in tow. We expect more of the same intensity this year so be sure to tune into www.classicbass.com and our Social Media pages this Friday, August 31st to catch all of the action!
