From securing Rookie of the Year in 2010 to placing at the 47th annual Classic, see why this young gun and his skills in fishing and custom rod building refuse to slow down.

Mud Hole Pro Roy Takes R.O.Y. Pedigree to First Classic

For the first time, Houston is home to the Bassmaster Classic and likewise, it featured the fresh face of a first timer. Although Bradley Roy was competing in his first Classic, he showed he is more than ready to make big waves in fishing’s fiercest competition.

Bradley Roy’s journey to the Classic began at only 13, when he took home first place in 2004’s Junior World Championship. After weighing in under all the lights of that big stage, Roy realized his career plan, and knew it was a matter of time before he met the infamous Bassmaster Classic again.

In 2010, Roy was just 19 before he became the youngest angler to ever compete professionally on the Bassmaster Elite Series. Not only did he make it, Roy took home Rookie of the Year to earn the respect of many pro angling peers.

Battling each season to get better, Bradley Roy literally grew up fishing in the Bassmaster Elites and his comfort in the highest level of competition says as much about his abilities as it does about his character. Rather than falter from his youth, Roy became recognized for his ability to rapidly learn and adjust on the water.

This quickly connected his high-performance with consistency on tour, which earned him plenty of attention from both Mud Hole Custom Tackle and MHX Rods.

Custom Rod Building Helps Fuel Roy’s Classic Run

Since his elevation in professional fishing, Bradley Roy has made some tactical changes to enhance his fishing equipment and his techniques. Roy began rod building in 2015 and not long after, he worked out a sponsorship with Mud Hole, who’s brand of custom rod building is championed by pro anglers across the country.

In fact, once Bradley got comfortable in rod building, his keen talents in fishing fused with the knowledge base of custom rod building for a dynamic combination in competition. Working with Mud Hole, Roy found custom rod building on MHX rod blanks dialed in his equipment and his techniques for the ultimate performance regardless of his fishing application or location.

Fishing across the nation, Roy depends on this performance boost and now with Bradley Roy’s Custom Pro Tour Rod Kits, you can too!

Each of Bradley Roy’s custom fishing rods serve a specific purpose on his boat, but with that said, he has two favorite fishing rods that he knows can do it all. When he first got into custom rod building, Roy assembled the Bradley Roy Signature Bass Fishing Turnkey Kit.

Centered around the MB873-MHX rod blank, this custom rod is great for all-purpose fishing. Whether throwing single-hook baits or treble hook lures, the MB873’s medium-heavy power and fast action are versatile enough to fill his boat’s box with fish in any location.

Talking about this rod, Bradley grins and says, “If I were forced to choose one rod, this MB873-MHX Rod would be a no brainer… I actually keep three rigged up on my boat at all times because their versatility outperforms every other available rod.”

Despite Roy’s faith in this rod, it isn’t his only choice when it’s time for flippin’ or throwing a Carolina rig. His Bradley Roy FS904 7’6” Flippin’ Heavy Casting Rod packs the perfect punch for throwing heavier lures, hooking heavier fish, and then yanking ‘em out of the heaviest cover.

“When I’m fishing, and need that extra strength to rip ‘em out of dense cover, this Flippin’-Heavy Casting Rod is what I’m going with every time,” Bradley gladly admits.
