GRAND RAPIDS, MN—August 30, 2013—Andrew Wick and Tony Troumbly put together two solid baskets to win top honors and a Ranger RT 188 aluminum bass boat at the Classic Bass Invitational tournament August 29-30 on Pokegama Lake at Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

“It’s pretty exciting—it hasn’t begun to sink in yet,” said Troumbly, of Coleraine, Minnesota. Powered by a 115-horsepower Mercury OptiMax Pro XS, the 18-foot, 8-inch rig was awarded to the winners thanks to a partnership between Ranger Boats, Mercury Marine and Classic Bass. Wick and Troumbly brought a pair of CBI six-bass limits to the scale for a total two-day weight of 44.75 pounds. They explained that topwater frogs fished along weedlines in the Mississippi River north of the “hot pond” were key to their winning basket—which was comprised entirely of largemouths.

“This is outstanding,” Wick, also of Coleraine, beamed seconds after climbing into the team’s new Ranger in front of a roaring lakefront crowd gathered at Zorbaz just south of Grand Rapids. “We’d like to thank Classic Bass for putting on a great tournament. We’ve been waiting for an event like this to come to the area.”

Arnie Nichols and Gregg Peterson were close behind in second place with 44.33 pounds. They won a Humminbird 1198c SI and a Minn Kota Talon shallow-water anchoring system valued at $4,450. In third place, Day One leaders Tony Hatten and Matt Seymour claimed a Humminbird 998c SI and Minn Kota Talon for their two-day weight of 43.62 pounds. In all, the top nine teams shared more than $31,000 in cash and prizes, representing a 218 percent payback to the field.

A total of 270 bass weighing 809.79 pounds crossed the Classic Bass stage, of which 99 percent were returned to the Pokegama system unharmed. Big fish of the tournament were a 5.07-pounder on Day One, caught by Hatten and Seymour, and a 5-pound beauty on Day Two, caught by Wick and Troumbly. Each was worth $550 in cash from the CBI Big Bass Pot.

Site hosts included Visit Grand Rapids, Zorbaz, the Sawmill Inn and Timberlake Lodge. Tournament sponsors included Ranger Boats, Mercury Marine, Minn Kota, Humminbird and LakeMaster. The event was an extension of the popular website Classic Bass, which for nearly two decades has been Minnesota’s go-to source of bass tournament information. As part of tournament festivities, Classic Bass unveiled a total site redesign, featuring a new look, additional content and better functionality.

Based in Elk River, Minnesota, Classic Bass is the premier source of unbiased tournament bass fishing information, and works closely with anglers, tournament directors, bass clubs and other organizations to provide the latest results, standings, schedules and more.
