A Day on the River with La Crosse Champ Ott DeFoe

Last week Classic Bass was fortunate enough to spend a day on the water with Ott DeFoe during Elite Series practice on the Mississippi River in La Crosse, WI. Ott went on to win the event with a 4 day total of 63lb-10oz. Ott topped Minnesota’s very own Seth Feider by just over 1 pound. Here’s a visual recap of our day with the champ!

One of Ott’s key areas was this spillway where he threw moving baits for both largemouth and smallmouth bass. The majority of fish DeFoe caught here were of the green variety.

A big part of Ott’s succcess was his new Minn Kota Ultrex trolling motor. The power of this troller and especially the spot lock feature allowed Ott to hold in strong current and make several casts to key spots within his areas. Re-tying and culling also become extremely easing while the Minn Kota keeps you locked down.
